Design and Construction

Can a building inspire innovation? Will a place promote learning? Should an environment aid in healing? We believe the answer is unequivocally, yes. That’s what drives UC San Diego’s Capital Program team.

Campus Development

To better serve the UC San Diego community’s needs and offer a better student experience, the campus is transforming itself into a living and learning community that will allow us to provide housing at below-market rates, new academic and research buildings and mixed-use spaces to enhance the user experience.

  • The UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley connects the campus to downtown and the Mexican border with two stations serving the campus.
  • New housing projects have opened and some are in various stages of design and approval.

Capital Program Team

UC San Diego’s Capital Program team is charged with campus visioning support, design development and regulatory functions, and overseeing project management and delivery.

Together, the team implements the university’s capital improvement program shepherding projects that exceed $2 million from inception to occupancy and providing unmatched care and custody over the university’s assets. It oversees all aspects of planning, design and construction management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the stakeholders' satisfaction. See how our construction process works.

Minor Capital Projects

The Facilities Management – Project Management group manages projects below $2 million, including deferred maintenance, building renovations, rehabs and space repurposing.

Project Quality Management

The Project Quality Management team provides support for the campus in collaboration with Capital Program Management and Facilities Management teams, including campus stakeholders and customers.
