Physical Planning

Physical Planning oversees the development of campus plans and planning studies and works to ensure campus development is consistent with long-term planning objectives, established design guidelines and planning policies. The team provides planning oversight throughout project development, working closely with campus partners during the planning, design and construction of campus projects, to help implement the broader campus vision.

Physical Planning manages the Campus/Community Planning Committee, Open Space Committee, other ad hoc planning committees and participates in a variety of campus committees. The team coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, including campus students, staff and faculty, community groups and local and regional agencies such as the City of San Diego, SANDAG and Caltrans, to advance coordinated planning outcomes.

Physical Planning also works with the California Coastal Commission, a state regulatory agency, to secure Coastal Development Permits for projects located on university property within the coastal zone.
